Nobel Laureates Support Drops By Half
Date: 04/11/2002
Yesterday, 40 Nobel laureates issued a letter to President Bush in support of cloning. Last year, a similar letter to Bush, urging support for embryonic stem cell research, was signed by 80 Nobel laureates. That letter justified embryonic stem cell research because it was (as claimed at the time) limited to the so-called “spare” frozen embryos created through in-vitro fertilization clinics. The new letter demands the right to create cloned human embryos for research purposes. It is noteworthy that the number of Nobel laureates petitioning Bush to proceed with research dropped by half.
